Jacquelyn "Jaci" Davette Velasquez (Spanish Jaci VelÃÆ'¡squez , born October 15, 1979) is an American actress and contemporary Christian and Latin pop singer and songwriter, performing at both English and Spanish.
Velasquez has sold nearly five million albums worldwide, recorded three Platinum albums and three Gold albums, and recorded 16 singles reaching No. 1. 1 plus six more in the top 10. He received the Latin Billboard Music Award in 2002 for his album "Mi CorazÃÆ'³n", eight Dove Awards, including Best New Artist and Best Female Vocalist, as well as three Grammy nominations, and an American Music Award nomination in the "Favorite Latin Artist" category in 2002.
Since late 2010, Velasquez has hosted a morning radio show with Doug Griffin.

Biography
Early life
Velasquez was born in Houston, Texas. He is of Mexican, Spanish, French, Scottish, and Arab descent. He grew up in an evangelical church where his parents were singers and priests. Although he describes himself as a "non-denominational Christian," he states in an interview with Morris Cerullo that "You are talking to an Assemblies of God girl".
At the age of nine, he began traveling with his father, who was then a full-time evangelist. He began by singing a backup song, then singing solo, releasing two independent recordings. It was on the way that he was found by a representative of Myrrh Records.
Music career
Velasquez released his debut album Heavenly Place in 1996; five songs became hit No. 1. The album is then certified Platinum. Velasquez has been distinguished as the solo debut recording artist with the fastest selling in the genre and the first solo artist in the history of Christian music to achieve gold status with the debut album. He has released seven other English-language albums, two of which are certified Gold. The five Latin albums that adorned extraordinary success with Llegar A Ti will be double-platinum and Mi CorazÃÆ'³n became platinum. He has produced sixteen Christian radio no. 1 and six other top 10 singles, and has won nine Dove awards, including New Artist of the Year and two Female Vocalist of the Year wins. Velasquez has also conducted advertising campaigns for Pepsi hair products, Target, Doritos, John Freida's Frizz-Ease and Helzberg Diamonds.
In 1998, he signed with Sony Discos for a four-album deal and was introduced to Rudy PÃÆ' Â © rez, which produced his first Spanish-language crossover album Llegar a Ti at the top of the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks , the first Christian song that topped the list. The album allowed Velasquez to achieve a successful cross by building a fan base among Hispanics. His first single, "Llegar a Ti", topped the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks and became the first Christian song to take the top spot. The song also gave her a Latin Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Female Vocal Performance.
In 2001, he released a second Spanish-language album, Mi CorazÃÆ'³n . The album's main single, "Como Se Cura Una Herida," topped the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks, and became one of the biggest singles of the year, receiving several award nominations and winning. The album received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Latin Pop Album. "Como Se Cura Una Herida" charted in No. 1 simultaneously with the song "Adore" at the top No. 1 on the CCM (Inspirational) graph which gives Velasquez two simultaneous No. 1 in two different markets.
His Latin musical success includes five Spanish-language releases, two Latin no 1 Billboard Singles, two Platinum albums, Premio Lo Nuestro Award for New Artist of the Year, two Latin Music Awards and four Dove Awards for Spanish Album of the Year.
In September 2008, Velasquez was elected by the Department of Foreign Affairs' International Information Program Bureau as one of the top 15 American-Hispanic figures in America.
In August 2011, Velasquez signed a contract with a new label, Inpop Records, and his album, Diamond , was released on February 7, 2012. Velasquez released its first Spanish introductory album, Buenas noches mi sol , in 2012 with Fisher-Price. Velasquez released a new project on March 31, 2017 through Integrity Music, which consists of English-language albums, Trust , and the Spanish version, ConfÃÆ'o . At the 48th Dove Awards, "ConfÃÆ'o" won the Spanish Language Album of the Year
Acting career
Velasquez made his acting debut in the 2003 Chally Papi movie, which also featured Sofia Vergara, Roselyn Sanchez, and Eduardo Verastegui, and Nicole Scherzinger in cameo roles. It was released nationally in the United States in April 2003. 11 at the box office, and earned $ 6 million worldwide. Velasquez also starred in the Christian films The Encounter and Jerusalem Countdown, both released in 2011.
In November 2010, Velasquez started the co-hosting of "Family Friendly Morning Show" with Doug Griffin after hosting several months. The show aired on over 100 US radio stations for four hours each morning on weekdays.
In 2016, she plays as a drama teacher, Mrs. Diaz in I'm Not Shamm, a 2016 biographical drama based on Rachel Joy Scott's journals.

Personal life
Velasquez married Darren Potuck, from the band AutoVaughn, on August 16, 2003. They divorced in 2005.
On December 17, 2006, he married Nic Gonzales in a private ceremony in Austin, Texas. Gonzales is a member of Salvador, a Christian group with whom he has toured. Their first son, Zealand, was born in 2007 and their second son Soren in 2009.
