Meet Small Potatoes is a 2013 family movie written and directed by Josh Selig and starring Malcolm McDowell. This is a follow up of the Selig television series, Small Potatoes. The film serves both as a prequel and a spin-off from the show. Specifically aired on Disney Jr. on February 15, 2013, uses the sound and resemblance of real fans to movie men on street interviews.

Plot
The film is presented in a mockumentary style documenting the history of The Small Potatoes, an anthropomorphic singing potato band. The segment narrative was interspersed with interviews with the band's chief executive, manager Lester Koop (McDowell), and the guy in a street interview with a band of fans (all potatoes).
The Small Potato Trajectory roughly follows trends in American popular music through the second half of the 20th century: Potatoes began as a country and western band in Idaho in the 1940s, before discovering its first popularity as rock and roll and then a doo wop singer in the 1950s. an. They reached the height of their popularity in the 1960s as an act of British invasion style, followed by experimenting with psychedelic rock after a trip to India. Through the Potato career, there is a continuous dispute between the lead singer, Ruby, and Nate, the songwriter, about what the band's image should be. Olaf, fat potato, struggling with his weight, which Lester tries to help keep him under control, while Chip is a quiet and unbound voice.
Conflict worsened between Nate and Ruby in the 1970s. Most members went on to get a steady job while Ruby reinvented herself as a solo pop act of Britney Spears in the 1990s. The group's old albums remained popular, and Ruby became depressed at the loss of her friends. The group enjoyed a revival of popularity on the internet in 2000, which caused Simon, Olaf, and Nate to reunite for a reunion tour. Ruby surprised everyone by performing in the theater on the eve of their opening concert and singing with the band. The group finally finishes all of their old hostilities and Lester arranges for them to make a comeback tour.

Based on the success of his television series, Selig was commissioned by Disney to bring the original feature, forty-five minutes to air on Disney Jr. Prior to the movie debut, parents were invited to submit photos of their children in a Facebook contest to have their similarities animated into the film as Potato fans in the human-on-street segment.
Many of the songs are taken from episodes of television shows, here work into the context of the concert series. Tony Award-winning composer Jerry Bock wrote some original songs, one of his last projects before his death. In accordance with the educational nature of this event, this film serves to teach children about the history of popular music in the 20th century.
Reception
The film received mixed reviews; currently has 6/10 in Internet Movie Database and 2.6/5 on Vudu. Emily Ashby, writing for Common Sense Media, gave a 4/5 star movie; he criticized the lack of film relevance for preschoolers, but praised him for his positive message and usefulness as a tool for teaching older kids about interpersonal skills and conflict resolution. Ashby further praised the level of interest for older viewers, stating "Meet Small Potatoes is clearly written with old fans of character in mind, resting on a clever mockumentary style (think Spinal Tap , but with product food) that does will be earned by younger children.
