Careers

Carpio began his career as a child star, winning the first Hong Kong Amateur Talent Quest in 1963 at the age of 6. At the age of 11, he refused a scholarship at St. Paul to work in his first job in Tahiti where his father also works. After that, he worked at the club until he went to Japan for a year where he met Shintaro Katsu who sponsored him during his time there. He released his first single in Japan in 1971, entitled Ainoko Mary (??????).

Upon his return to Hong Kong, he worked in many nightclubs, such as Danshaku, Gessekai, and Chin Chin Bar at the Hyatt Hotel, until EMI came and offered him a recording contract.

For several years from 1975 onwards, Carpio held his own variety TV show in Hong Kong, where he performed solos and with some of his siblings. He has released many albums in Hong Kong since 1976 and beyond; his six albums under EMI became gold, in which he featured a cover version in English western hits, including an album with George Lam. He made many television appearances in Hong Kong, in the late 1970s.

Carpio is Hong Kong's first and youngest singer ever to appear on national TV in Japan. He has performed in many other countries as far as Singapore, Malaysia, Tahiti, Australia, Japan, Thailand, Brunei, USA and Canada.

With Cantopop's growing popularity, Carpio began recording in Cantonese along with English, remaining popular despite increased competition from new stars, especially Anita Mui. Carpio expanded his career into acting by appearing in a number of films, and auditioned for the lead role in Miss Saigon, though this eventually went to Lea Salonga. He is no stranger to live musical theater, having taken a lead role in the production of San Jose, California in 1979 from the City of Broken Promises stage, based on a book by Austin Coates, a story made in Macau that won Best Original Musical.

After her second marriage, Carpio moved to Canada and focused her attention on raising her family (she has three daughters: the oldest, T. V. Carpio, by her first marriage, also an actor, singer and songwriter).

Singer 2017

At the end of 2016, she appeared as a guest in the final ???? 2016 with Wong Cho Lam singing the Prayer version.

Partly due to the appearance, in early 2017 he was one of seven artists who were initially invited to compete in the Hunan TV Singer 2017 program in which interest was fueled by the fact that he competed against one of his most famous disciples, Sandy Lam Yik-Lin. She was eliminated after Episode 4 even though she had never been in last place, winning two # 1, one # 2 and one # 3 venues as elected by another singer, and her average position over four episodes was 4.75. Its deletion is not without controversy, with many process questions. In Episode 12, the "Breakout" event, in which the eliminated singer competes with the lowest ranked singer still in the competition for the chance of qualifying for the semi-finals, she is second with 3 votes, and won the Singer Ranking for the third time. In the next week's semi-finals he was eliminated again, churning out controversy again, especially since his average rating is 5, good enough for the 6th overall.
