The APF Imagination Machine is a console home video game console and computer system released by APF Electronics Inc. at the end of 1979. It consists of two separate components, an APF-M1000 game system, and an add on docking bay with a full-sized typewriter keyboard and tape drive. The APF-M1000 is built specifically to compete with the Atari 2600. The Imagination engine has the distinction of being one of the first, if not the first, affordable home computers to connect to television, and still one of the most upgradable consoles. never marketed. The APF Imagination Machine has some prominent features in its time.
APF Basic
First and foremost is the bundled APF Basic compiler, which allows everyday users to develop their own programs. Most system retailers offer a complete and powerful instruction manual to explain how special codes work, and the technology sheets that define each function of each chip in the console, allowing users to generate the most efficient code. To encourage more home users to create their own games and trade them, the monthly mailing list started well through the fall of video games in 1983 and into the next generation console era.
Custom cassette
Secondly, and often one of the most marketed features of the console, is the fact that it has a double sided cassette drive that will allow users to not only write or use games or programs from it, but also record their own sound for it or listen to recorded audio previous. This feature is generally used for programmers to leave a record of their work, or for instructions to be read before a game is played.

Many games are created by the owner's active programming community and are distributed through their monthly newsletter, but these are all released only on the cassette tape form, or in some cases, just as prints of code that must be typed if it is not transferred through copied tapes.

Konsol IM-2 APF
APF has planned to release a follow-up to the original M1000 Imagination Machine game console, but get out of business before the console can go to the market. No official specification has ever been released, although some with the company at the time have mentioned that it is essentially the same M1000 core as a typical upgrade.
