Daniel "Danny" MacAskill (born December 23, 1985) is a Scottish motorcyclist, from Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye. He works professionally as a road test racer for Bicycle Inspired Ltd. and Santa Cruz. He released April 2009 , a five-and-a-half-minute roadmap video, filmed by teammate Dave Sowerby, on YouTube on April 19, 2009 for a popular reception and wide media attention. The action video feature performed by MacAskill (Neil Williams can also be seen in the background) is set to "The Funeral" by Band of Horses.
In April 2009, MacAskill has been practicing several hours per day for over 12 years. He gave up his job as a mechanic so he could ride full-time and now live in Glasgow. In June 2009, MacAskill appeared in the music video for the single Doves "Winter Hill".
In September 2009, MacAskill was the focus of TV commercials filmed by The Leith Agency on behalf of the Scottish job website s1jobs.com.
On November 16, 2010 MacAskill released a new video Way Back Home produced by Red Bull Media House. The video features locations around Scotland including Edinburgh Castle, North Berwick, a wartime bunker on Inchgarvie island under the Forth Bridge and Cruachan Dam in the Scottish Highlands. In May 2011 Leica Camera released a promotional video Go Play which featured her performing tricks in the city of Cape Town. On August 9, 2011 Cut Media released a video called Industrial Revolution directed by Stu Thomson. The video, set to "The Wolves" by Ben Howard, features MacAskill performing tricks in an abandoned Scottish ironwork. It was made for the documentary Channel 4 Concrete Circus .
In 2011 MacAskill, along with Inspired Bicycles, released its signature test frame, "Skye Inspired".
In 2012, MacAskill took action for the movie Premium Rush . MacAskill is currently managed by the German agency, Rasoulution.
In early May 2013, MacAskill was invited to Taichung, Taiwan by sponsorship partner, Lezyne USA, to film an equestrian video titled Danny MacAskill in Taiwan - powered by Lezyne .
In the summer of 2013, MacAskill publishes a cycling experiment project on YouTube called Imaginate that has been taken for 18 months produced by Red Bull Media House and directed by Stu Thomson. In less than three weeks, the video has received over 4 million views (currently 81).
In May 2014, MacAskill released another video through Red Bull Media House named Epecuen , which was shot at a location in EpecuÃÆ'Ã nn, Argentina. The city has been inundated since 1985 for most of the time, and the video opens with the only inhabitant to talk about it. Starting April 2016, the video has garnered over 10 million views.
In October 2014, MacAskill and long-term collaborator Stu Thomson of Cut Media released a film called The Ridge. It was filmed on her home island, Isle of Skye, along the steep and rocky Cuillin Ridge. In the first 5 days, videos on YouTube garnered over 10 million views. The film is accompanied by the BBC Scotland Riding the Ridge program documenting Danny and the Cut Media crew as they make viral movies.
