Location
Research and development is driven from headquarters facilities in Mason, Ohio and supported by an old manufacturing center in Quincy, Illinois. The Quincy facility is on a 40-hectare campus that houses GatesAir's global production, integration, testing and fulfillment operations. History
GatesAir traces its origins until 1922 when Gates Radio Company was founded by Parker Gates, with the help of his parents, in Quincy, Illinois. The company was sold in 1957 to Harris Intertype Corporation (now Harris Corporation). The Gates brand was originally maintained. In celebrating Gates' 50th birthday in 1972, it was announced that the company expanded to add television broadcasting equipment to the acquisition of General Electric's TV channel that year. The company name was changed to Harris in 1975. Harris Corporation sold its broadcast equipment operations to the Gores Group in 2012 with sales completed in 2013.
In March 2014, Harris Broadcast was split into two companies, Imagine Communications Corp. (software company and Internet network) and GatesAir (broadcasting equipment company). The name GatesAir restores the company's historic name.
In February 2017, GatesAir sold studio radio consoles, studio networks, and studio furniture businesses (collectively known as "Pacific Research & Engineering" or "PR & amp; E") to Wheatstone Corporation. Harris Corporation has acquired PR & amp; E in 1999 and put it into the Broadcasting Division.
