Ashley Nicolette Frangipane (born September 29, 1994), known professionally as Halsey ( ), is a American singer and songwriter. His stage name is a reference to Halsey Street station of the New York City Subway in Brooklyn, and an anagram of his first name.
Gaining attention from self-released music on social media platforms, Halsey was signed by Astralwerks in 2014. He toured with various acts such as The Kooks and Imagine Dragons to promote his extended playback, Room 93 (2014). The studio album debuted, Badlands (2015), is certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Four singles were released from the album, all of which achieved little commercial success.
Halsey became famous for "Closer" (2016), collaborating with The Chainsmokers, who topped the charts on the main music market. Their second studio album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom (2017), comprises more "radio friendly" music than previous releases. It became his first album on the US Billboard 200, and produced the single "Bad at Love", which became his first top 5 entry on the Hot 100 Billboard as the main artist.
