Plot
Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) turn people into vampires so Damon can eat them from now on, after the injection of Wes' (Rick Cosnett), he desperately needs vampire blood and not human. They both try to leave the last victim's house when Wes shows up with travelers spelling the house so the vampire will not be able to get out. Wes told them that he wanted to do one last test; how long Damon can survive before he attacks his friends for food.
Katherine (Nina Dobrev), still pretending to be Elena, tries to get closer to Stefan (Paul Wesley) so they can come back together. When Caroline (Candice Accola) arrives and tells them about Damon, Stefan wants to find her and Katherine offers to go with him. Caroline warns him that it's strange for him to be so close to "Elena" after everything that happened but he assures her that they are just friends. Before Stefan and Katherine leave, Caroline gets a phone call from Tyler (Michael Trevino) telling her that she's worried about Matt (Zach Roerig), who has vanished for two days, and that Nadia (Olga Fonda) forced her. Katherine heard Caroline's conversation with Tyler and she called Nadia to ask if everything was okay. When Nadia told him that Matt knew that he was not Elena, Katherine asked him to kill her. Caroline goes to Tyler while Katherine and Stefan go find Damon.
Caroline got to Tyler and they tried to find out why Nadia would force Matt and what she wanted from him. They both felt awkward because of what happened between Caroline and Klaus (Joseph Morgan). At the same time, Matt tries to convince Nadia that he does not have to kill her and all he has to do is convince his friends that he's okay. Matt returns home with Nadia and acts as if everything is fine. He tells Tyler and Caroline that Nadia does not force her and that they just have fun together but Caroline does not really support it. They both left, leaving Matt and Nadia alone.
Katherine and Stefan are on their way to find Damon and Katherine trying to seduce Stefan. He damages the car so they can stay at the hotel he sees until his car is ready. While there, Enzo calls Stefan to tell him about the situation that he and Damon enter but Katherine answers who asked her to send her her address. Stefan goes to pick up the car and Katherine calls Nadia to say that she plans to lead Stefan to kill Damon to save her. Stefan returns and before they leave the hotel, Katherine gets closer to her and kisses her. He kisses his back but he stops because "Elena" has just broken up with Damon and that's not true.
Enzo bumps into Damon in a chair in an attempt to prevent him from attacking him. Wes shoots Enzo to make him bloody, so Damon will not be able to fight. Damon breaks the chain and attacks Enzo who tries to stop him. Damon strangles Enzo's blood and Wes appears to tell her that it's because he has the explorers put a spell on it. He offers to Enzo to go with him so he will not be killed by Damon because his spell will not last forever. Enzo does not want to go but Damon convinces him to do it because if he stays, he'll kill him. Enzo goes with Wes and Damon remains alone, trapped inside the house.
Nadia checks that vervain is finally outside Matt's system so she can force it again but before she makes it forget, Matt tries to warn Caroline about Katherine taking over Elena's body. She kisses Nadia who kisses him back and when they kiss, she tries to send Caroline's message. She managed to write "Help K" and sent it to Caroline before Nadia saw it and stopped her. She's hurt by her behavior and tries to fool her, so she forces her and starts to get out of the house. Caroline, who gets the text, meets Nadia at the door and asks what she's up to and they start fighting. Tyler arrives there in time to stop Nadia killing Caroline and she fights Nadia who runs away.
Katherine and Stefan arrive at the house where Damon is but Damon warns them not to go home because they will not get out and he will attack them. They tell him that they are not afraid of him and they both enter the house. Katherine, to help Damon fight his impulse, cut off his hand with a glass and provoked him with blood telling him that he could fight it. Damon starts feeding him, Stefan tells her to stop and Katherine kicks in the direction Stefan tells him that Damon will kill her. Stefan, instead of taking a bet, he takes a piece of glass and cuts himself to distract Damon. Damon leaves Katherine and Stefan snaps her neck.
Katherine and Stefan bring Damon back to Mystic Falls and Katherine arranges soon to meet Nadia. Katherine was happy because, although her plan to kill Damon did not work, she got along with Stefan. She stopped smiling when Nadia told her that she was bitten by Tyler Lockwood.
Damon wakes up in the basement of Salvatore's house. Stefan is there and Damon tries to warn him that because of his passion, someday he will kill him but Stefan tells him that they will find a solution. Damon pointed to Stefan that "Elena" provoked him to feed him and then he kicked a stake at him so he would kill him. Stefan does not believe that Elena wants that, she locks Damon and goes upstairs where Caroline is. The two discuss what happened between Stefan and "Elena" and Caroline also told her about Nadia and Matt and the text she sent to her. From Matt's text, which uses "K" instead of "E", they collect the pieces and they realize that Katherine is on Elena's body.

Reviews
"No Exit" received mixed and negative criticism with many people hoping that now that Katherine's secret is revealed, the show will "kick".
Carrie Raisler from The A.V. Club assigns B to an episode that says it is a filler episode: "the road to this realization [knowing that Katherine is in Elena's body] basically creates a filler episode, the way to move the story to that place is necessary for confrontation Inevitably, Katherine takes over the life of Elena is a very inspired storyline, and seeing it is revealed has been fun, but sooner or later someone has to figure out what is going on To spend an episode that is just focusing on making it is a good thing. "
Alyse Wax of Fearnet wrote: "I miss the ugliness shown by this show Julie Plec takes it all with her and puts it into The Originals. [...] All that is awesome, fierce and supernatural drama has been replaced by a no-nonsense-who-nonsense standard, since the original vampires got their own show.I think Klaus really took pretense with him.Well, now everyone knows that "Elena" is really Katherine, so hope that crazy bullshit will kick. "
Caroline Preece of Den of Geek gave a negative review saying that the fifth season of the event was the worst so far. "[The show] ceases to be a fast and well-written vampire show and a long-running soap that happens to have a mythical creature in it.That's not what we all signed up, but with Katherine's storyline probably on the way out now because Stefan and Caroline has found a trick and Nadia has the dreaded werewolf wolf, maybe the next half bow will be better? Let's hope so because, because we all know how wonderfully entertaining this show can be the best, there's always a glimmer of hope that can re-form. "
Stephanie Hall from K Site TV said that the whole episode left her feeling that this was the week off of the show. "No Exit" is a strange, strange episode of The Vampire Diaries that primarily serves to stop the forthcoming solutions of these two most pressing episodes: Katherine and Damon.Although it brings our hero one step closer to solve both of these problems, the ways in which it was not delivered with as much explosive metaphor as can be expected. "
Matt Richenthal of Fanatic TV rated episodes with only 1.3/5 saying it was a dull hour of television and that the author recycles scenes and stories from previous episodes/seasons. "We knew from the moment Katherine inhabited Elena's body that she would eventually get caught. What other alternatives might be? So we've been waiting and waiting and waiting for that moment for weeks and that's the episode tonight."
