Richard Clay " Rip " Hamilton (born February 14, 1978) is an American retired professional basketball player who plays 14 seasons at the National Basketball Association (NBA ). Hamilton is famous for his nine-year stint with the Detroit Pistons, where he is an All-Star three times. He helped lead the Pistons to six Eastern Conference Finals, returning to NBA Finals, their best record in franchise history (64-18 in 2005-06) and the 2004 NBA championship.
Born and raised in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, a suburb 40 miles west of Philadelphia, Hamilton played three years for the University of Connecticut. In his third and final year, Hamilton was named the Great Four Leading Player on the way to a disappointing NCAA Championship victory over the highly favored Duke Blue Devils. He is the second highest scorer in the history of Connecticut Huskies.
Named the first team of All-American consensus, Hamilton decided to leave his senior year and go into the NBA draft. The seventh overall preparation by the Washington Wizards where he will spend the next three seasons, Hamilton recorded an average of 20 points per game starting next to Michael Jordan. College career
Hamilton played college basketball at the University of Connecticut from 1996 to 1999. NBA Career
