Bonnie Prudden (January 29, 1914 - December 11, 2011) is an American physical fitness pioneer, rock climber and expert mountaineer. His report to Eisenhower about the untruth of American children compared to their European counterparts led to the establishment of the Presidential Council on Youth Fitness. Prudden wrote 16 books on physical fitness and Myotherapy for all ages and abilities including two best sellers, Pain: The Bonnie Prudden Way (1980). He produced six rehearsal albums, hosted the first regular practice site on national television, held syndicated television shows, and wrote columns for Sports Illustrated . Schools, prisons, summer camps, factories, hospitals, clubs, YMCAs, universities, geriatric houses and facilities for all physical and emotional challenges are used and benefited from the many physical fitness programs he provides for them. Prudden also designed the first fitness mode and developed many sports equipment that can be built in the average garage and used by the family.

He also developed Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy in 1976. "A method for relieving muscle spasms, improving circulation, and relieving pain.Pressures are applied, using elbows, knuckles, or fingers, and held for a few seconds to ease the ' trigger points. Born as Ruth Alice in New York City, Prudden started his climbing and dancing career at the age of four when he emerged from the nursery window on the second floor of Mt. After graduating in 1933, he took additional courses in arts at the Graduate School of Design and journalism and psychology at Columbia. At the same time he began studying modern dance with Charles Weidman and Doris Humphrey and became part of the Weidman/Humphrey concert/theater group that appeared on Broadway.

Mountaineering

In 1936 he married Richard Hirschland, a mountaineer and skier. Their honeymoon in Switzerland is marked by climbing at the Matterhorn after one day of training and purchasing a new pair of boots.

She first climbed in Gunks in 1936 with her husband along with Fritz Wiessner and Hans Kraus. In the winter of 1937, however, he deeply broke his pelvis in a skiing accident, followed by three months in traction and a doctor's prediction that he would always be limp, no longer able to ski, climb, dance, or have children. Nevertheless, Joan Ellen's daughter was born in May 1939 and Susan Ann in August 1943. She rehabilitated herself with chair exercises and water sports for music. Prudden later became the first woman to hold a National Ski Patrol Badge, and formed Addlepate Ski Club, the country's first dry skiing club. It's for kids eight to eighteen years old and a base for the Jr. Ski Patrol. first. Over eleven years he taught 1,000 children ages eight to eighteen without a single broken bone. For his work he was awarded the East Amateur Ski Association for ski safety.

Seven years after his injury, Prudden returns to Gunks, partnering with good friend Hans Kraus. From 1946 to 1955 (guided by Hans Kraus) he became the most prominent female climber with his 30 predecessors documented in the Shawangunks Mountains. In 1952, Prudden and Kraus tried a new climbing route on a cliff known as The Trapps. After trying his very essence, Kraus backed away, handing the boss to Prudden. He was able to find a piton placement that had avoided Hans in essence, and went on to claim the first ascent of "Bonnie Roof". Since then, he has stated that he and Kraus always ride as equal partners, always exchanging directions. He stopped climbing in 1959 when he said he worked fourteen hours a day and no longer had a weekend. After the Hirschlands divorced in 1954, Bonnie changed her name legally to Bonnie Prudden. She never remarried.

Adolescent fitness

After watching her daughter's sport class in 1947, she started Bonnie Hirschland's Conditioning Classes for her two daughters and ten neighboring children. In a matter of weeks the class has grown to 75. The schools offer their gym as long as he accepts all applicants. In 1949, new students entered his class. To measure the effectiveness of his program, he borrowed and applied practically using fitness tests designed by Kraus and Sonja Weber of New York Presbyterian Hospital. The Kraus-Weber test involves six simple moves and takes 90 seconds to do. To his surprise, the new students failed the test at 58% while the students who had followed the program failed only 8%. For the next seven years Prudden and his volunteers tested 4,458 children between the ages of 6 and 16 in the United States. The failure rate is 56.6%. While climbing in Europe, Prudden and Kraus set up to test children in Europe. In Italy, Austria and Switzerland, the children tested showed an eight percent failure rate.

In 1952 Bonnie (still Ruth Hirschland) and Kraus began writing papers for medical and physical education journals on their findings about Hypokinetic Disease: The Inactive Role in Disease Production and various media began to take the story.

Prudden bought an empty primary school in White Plains, NY in 1954 and after renovating it opened The Institute for Physical Fitness. It is housed in three fitness centers, two dance studios, a Finnish sauna, a medical unit, two massage rooms, lockers, showers and offices. Taking a barefoot class is a requirement. The equipment, painted in bright colors, is designed after curbs, boulders, railings, railroads, and less mechanical day walls. Chinning rods are built on every door. Each child uses a ladder 42 between the basement and the upper floor for conditioning, discipline and special muscle building. Outside are obstacles, which include the first climbing wall in America, cargo net, obstacles, parallel bars, staircases, ramps, balance labyrinth, tightrope, slalom pole, and rappel roof.

In 1955, armed with statistics and personal invitations to the Eisenhower White House, Bonnie Prudden presented his findings on the fitness level of American public school children compared to their European counterparts. This is known as the Shocking Report of the President or Nation Shape and is the beginning of a change in America's attitude toward physical fitness.

Kraus's presentation is followed by the medical implications of inadequate physical activity: obesity, backache, high blood pressure, diabetes, coronary heart disease, psychiatric problems and muscle tension. President Eisenhower issued an executive order to establish the Presidential Council on Youth Fitness (now the Presidential Council for Physical Fitness, Sports and Nutrition) Prudden served on the advisory committee for three years. Prudden and Kraus are credited as one of the founders of the Council. In 2007 Prudden was awarded the Lifetime Lifetime Appointment Award. YMCA decided to adopt Prudden's teaching practice methods and follow his advice to receive women to their building for the morning class. Representatives are sent to the White Plains Institute to be taught test and exercise Kraus-Weber. They return to their respective states and arrange their Prudden Program at their YMCA. Prudden became a highly sought-after speaker and the YMCA became the place to go for Prudden Program with diapers and gyms, pre-natal classes, toddlers, mixed teens, and family practice classes. Is Your Child Really Suitable? the first book on children's fitness, published in 1956. This enlarged the President's report and outlined a solution to the problem.

From 1957 to 1960 Prudden served as a columnist for Sports Illustrated introducing his fitness program and appeared on the cover with his own full-length design tricolor. Fitness mode is born. Attracted by the The Home Show fitness mode with Arlene Frances and Hugh Downs, book it for a weekly family fitness TV spot. After closing The Home Show she moved to Today Show with Dave Garroway where she lived for two and a half years. He left the show when they started advertising the diet pills with respect to the place and his observers thought he was supporting him. At the same time he has a regular place on two radio shows, Tex and McCartney and Arthur Godfrey. From 1955 to 1975 Prudden continued his struggle to gain a better body. He wrote 13 books, countless manuals, compiled a pilot program of every type of clothing and fitness equipment imaginable and designed for home and school, tirelessly teaching across the country, issuing six notes, two films, 1 film strip, forming training five days workshop, writing and recording 35 half hour TV shows, The Bonnie Prudden Show. Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy

Bonnie Prudden says that there are three friends in her life that make Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy possible. The first was Hans Kraus, who taught his Repair Practice in 1943. The second was Janet Travell, which mapped the trigger point and referred to pain patterns in patients, in the early 1940s. The third was Desmond Tivy, who encouraged Prudden's research and created what he developed as Myotherapy.

Four years after the skiing accident, Prudden suffered back pain which was one of the consequences of his 1937 crash. He also said that he felt that the stress of his troubled marriage contributed to his physical pain. Back braces, heat, and cold become part of the daily routine.

His introduction to trigger points began in 1938 when he appeared in Gunks to climb with his friends including Kraus. When Kraus notes that he is holding his head in an oblique position, he asks if he feels pain and stiffness around his neck. When he says that he does it, he uses his thumb to press against his neck. When he finishes, he no longer feels pain or stiff and his head is straight. After this they all climbed. From 1949 until 1958 Prudden received training in therapeutic exercises with Kraus, worked in his office with his patients and in 1954 accepted the appointment as Research Assistant from Howard Rusk.

In 1952 Prudden began receiving trigger-point injection therapy from Kraus because of the tremendous back pain that often kept him in bed for days. The injections are followed by corrective exercises and allow it to function for several months before needing an injection.

Prudden closed the White Plains Institute in 1959, purchased 23 acres in Stockbridge, MA and in 1960 began building the Bonnie Prudden Institute for Physical Fitness. He continued his national workshop, a series of lectures, the Springfield College summer program, the Wesson birth program, and a new summer camp program for women, executives and children along with YMCA and Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia. Montgomery Ward added Prudden's fitness and fitness equipment to its catalog in 1960.

It was 1976 before all the pieces of the Myotherapy puzzle fell into place. Prudden's work arrangement with Tivy is that he will send the patient to Prudden who will find the trigger point, mark them and send them back to Tivy who will inject. The patient will return to Prudden for a corrective exercise. One morning a woman arrived with her head tilted and with a stiff and painful neck. Then Prudden would say that he might have hit the trigger point a little longer or hit it harder when he marked the point. However, after that the woman no longer felt pain, or stiff neck and head straight.

So began its development from Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy. Over the next four years using himself as a guinea pig, experimenting with staff, friends, and patients he developed and charting the most common trigger points and accompanying corrective exercises. It was Tivy who created the word MYOTHERAPY and said that there was not a lot of modalities available to him like this with few side effects.

In 1979 at the age of sixty-five Prudden's left hip replaced. Because of Mioterapi himself, he was able to do a weekend fitness workshop just before his hip surgery. Six weeks later with the help of Myotherapy and aqua-exercise he returned to the gym floor.

In 1980 Prudden opened Bonnie Prudden School for Physical Fitness and Myotherapy which trained students for professions: Instructor Training, and Myotherapy and Corrective Exercise practitioners. The school also has a nursery school where preschoolers use daily, learn anatomy, exposure to music, learn to swim, and are taught the basics of foreign languages ​​through songs and rhymes.

In 1984 Bonnie Prudden School enrolled the Myotherapist occupation with the US Department of Labor. Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy was a trademark in 1990 to distinguish its system, requiring 1300 hours of certification training and CE hours approved to retain certification, from others calling themselves Myotherapists.

Prudden feels that if the average person has the right information and tools that they can take care of themselves. In 1992, Bonnie moved her work and business to Tucson, Arizona, where she runs Bonnie Prudden School for Physical Fitness and Myotherapy and Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy Inc.
