Daniel James Platzman (born September 28, 1986) is an American musician, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, record producer, and composer. He is the drummer for the rock band Imagine Dragons.

Platzman was born on September 28, 1986 in Atlanta, Georgia. He studied at Berklee College of Music where he earned a degree in film assessment. While at Berklee, Platzman played at the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra, Urban Outreach Jazz Orchestra and the Berklee Rainbow Big Band, and received a Vic Firth Award for Outstanding Musicianship and Michael Rendish Award in Scoring Film. He also plays in guitar performance ensembles with future rock bands Imagine Dragons Wayne Sermon and Ben McKee.

Careers

Imagine the Dragon

In 2008, McKee was invited by Wayne Sermon to join Imagine Dragons, based in Las Vegas. McKee broke up from his final semester at Berklee to join the band, invited Daniel Platzman to play drums, completing the lineup. The band went on to get a number of local awards including "Best CD of the Year 2011" (Vegas SEVEN), "Best Local Indie Band 2010" (Las Vegas Weekly), "New Las Vegas' Must See Live Act" (Las Vegas CityLife), and sending more bands to positive trajectories. In November 2011 they signed a contract with Interscope Records and started working with producer Alex da Kid.

In 2012 their debut album Night Visions brings the mainstream band's success. It reached # 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and won the Billboard Music Award for Best Rock Album (2014). The single "It's Time" became the band's first single to reach # 15 Billboard Hot 100 and multi-platinum certification by the RIAA. The second single "Radioactive" reached # 3 Billboard Hot 100 and certified diamond by the RIAA, becoming the best-selling rock song in Nielsen SoundScan's history. The third single "Demons" reached # 6 Billboard Hot 100 and was certified multi-platinum by the RIAA. Their album made the highest debut for new rock bands in six years (since 2006) and Radioactive's single set a new record for a long time at the top of the Billboard Hot Rock Songs charts with 23 consecutive weeks. The songs from this album topped the Billboard Rock Songs, Billboard Alternative Songs, and Billboard Pop Songs charts. Radioactive was also nominated for two Grammy Awards, winning a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance.

In 2015, the second album Imagine Dragons Smoke Mirrors reached # 1 on Billboard 200, UK Albums Charts, and the Canadian Albums Chart. It featured singles "I Bet My Life" and "Shots".

The band has contributed songs to several movie soundtracks, including "Ready Aim Fire" for Iron Man 3, Who We Are for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Battle Cry "for" Transformers: Age of Extinction "and" Not Today "for Me Before You (movie) . In addition, in September, 2014, "Warriors" was released by Riot Games along with animated music videos promoting the League of Legends World Championships.

Platzman appeared on the cover of Drum magazine! edition of March 2015 magazine. Two months later he was profiled again in Drum! .

Movies & amp; Television Score

Platzman, who studied film scores at Berklee School of Music, compiled an original score for the 2014 season Africa Investigates , an award-winning documentary investigation on Al Jazeera English produced by TWI Insight. Africa Investigates is the first international documentary series exclusively fronted by African investigative journalists. Platzman also contributed music to the film Best i (i) iends .
