In the years before releasing his first solo album, Ware backing vocals on live shows for Jack PeÃÆ'Â ± ate (who took him on tour in America) and Man Like Me. Ware says that he learned a lot during his time with Jack PeÃÆ'Â ± eating: "Shown with him is really good training, because I have to learn all about how others do it - I can appear instantly without the pressure to become a singer leader. gives me a sense of what to expect, and it prepares me for what I'm doing right now. "It was one of PeÃÆ'Â ± Atéré's band mates, Tic, who first introduced Ware to SBTRKT; Ware and SBTRKT continue to collaborate on Nervous (2010). He then meets with Sampha, known as the main collaborator of SBTRKT and active members. They created "Valentine" together, released on a special edition, vinyl heart-shaped by Young Turks in 2011. "Valentine" is partly inspired by the James Blake song "The Wilhelm Scream" and based on their personal experience in love. The music video for Valentine was directed by Marcus SÃÆ'¶derlund. "Nervous", "Valentine" and additional collaborations with DJ Joker ("The Vision") lead Ware to a recording contract with PMR Records. She also appeared on Ceremonials , a 2011 album by Florence and the Machine where her best friend Florence Welch was the lead vocalist.

Reception

Critical response

Devotion received general praise from music critics. At Metacritic, which gives a normalized ranking of 100 to reviews of major criticism, the album received an average score of 85, based on 27 reviews, showing "universal recognition".

Mike Diver of BBC Music writes, " Devotion is a sophisticated and emotionally sophisticated pop recording that comes too rarely, a collection that never hides the heart on the sleeve. Down-tempo is possible, but no listeners will drop.Ignore the relatively low graph position for Run and 110%, as they hardly show the quality on display.Ware never stretches to out-of-range records, he never gives his songs above for hyperbole or bombast, on along the way, there is a measurable and courteous elegance that involves more efficiency than many artists who put their material on as The Next Big Thing.Nothing 'next' about Ware: he's here, now, and amazing. "

Tim Jonze from The Guardian wrote, "Sophisticated, delicate and sensual, in the wrong hands Devosi can easily be a footnote in the New Boring movement, the cultural tension of youth who has given us Emeli Sandà © ©, Adele and Bruce Springsteen concerts struggling with the space-time continuum itself. But Jessie Ware's debut album is saved by one fact: for all the quietness and control of her album, the dance music certainly runs through this 27-year-old south London vein. You are never told to sit and watch, instead of secretly working his magic, a sincere individual statement by an artist who does not expect to be a pop star, but may struggle to stop it happening anyhow - after all , the plot is in his heart ".

Commercial performance

Devotion debuted at number five on the UK Albums Chart, sold 9,319 copies in its first week.

"110%"

By the end of 2012, the song titled "110%" has to be changed to "If You Never Never Move" due to legal issues with sample permission "Dream Shatterer" by Big Punisher, which is an integral part of the song (the title itself is a game on Big Punisher other, "100%"). "If You Will not Move" contains samples that sound similar in their place.
