John and Ingram formed a songwriting partnership, decided to start their own 'slinky, sexy and erotic' group, working on a short band called Fizzz. While they auditioned for another short-lived band, Midnight Express, they met the drummer Errol Kennedy (born June 9, 1953, Montego Bay Jamaica) who, at a very young age had learned drums at the Boys Brigade and Air Training Corps. Careers
Formed in early 1981, the trio took a demo tape of a song called "Body Talk" for producer Jolley & amp; Lover. The album was released as a single in April 1981 with the group name Imagination, a name chosen by the group as a tribute to John Lennon. The song reached number 4 on the UK Singles Chart in July 1981, sold 250,000 copies in the UK and spent eighteen weeks in the Top 50. They had two more hit singles that year, "In and Out of Love" (September) and "Flashback "(November), both peaked at number 16, all from their debut album, also called Body Talk.
Their biggest hit, "Just an Illusion", peaked at number two in March 1982 ("Just an Illusion" which will later be used as the final title of the 1986 movie song ); followed by "Music and Lights" (number five in June), "In the Heat of the Night" (number 22 in September, also the name of their second album) and "Change" (number 31 in December). It is accompanied by a European bestselling concert tour, with 22 dates in the UK. The trio often appear on BBC Television's Top of the Pops, and other pop-music programs, with a distinctive exotic style, reminds the Roman senators, the harem and slave orders. John made guest appearances at Doctor Who in 1983. They are also known for their esoteric album sleeve records.
After this the group's success in England faded, but they continued to do, tour and record. In 1987, they signed a contract with RCA Records and recorded two more albums and seven singles. In late 1987 Kennedy left the band. John with new members Nat Augustin and Peter Royer went on and recorded their last album Fascinating of the Physical in 1992. The band split in 1992.
John re-acted, but reappeared as a singer on reality television show, Reborn in the USA. Ingram also enjoys success as a songwriter for Des'ree.
