Irish Broadband is a telecommunications company in Ireland that provides wireless broadband services.

In April 2008, Imagine Communications Group acquired Irish Broadband from National Tol Roads and Kilsaran Concrete.

They are now the second largest broadband provider in the Republic of Ireland after Eircom, with more than 115,000 subscribers.

The company provides wireless broadband services for residential and business customers, including up to 4Mb symmetric DSL link (4: 1 contention ratio). Services are provided through transmitters located at high points (eg high or hill buildings). In 2005 it is located in major cities of the Republic of Ireland, providing local services in urban areas. Trading as a Broadband NTR company also provides broadband services in Northern Ireland.

Services

Breeze is a fixed wireless service, delivering 2 MB, 3Mb, and 4 MB speeds.

Ripwave is a "broadband in-box" service, delivering speeds of 1 MB and 2 MB. However, most customers never get this speed. It has also been troubled by problems regarding signal quality.

Irish Broadband and Imagine also resell ADSL connectivity on the Eircom Bitstream network, offering ADSL speeds from 1Mb to 12Mb.

Criticism

Representatives of the company have stated that the problem that resulted in low service levels arose from the rapid growth in the number of customers, with an increase of 1,000% in one year. Recently, the company has increased the number of customer service agents used to respond to increased demand in call centers. The company's backbone network has also been redesigned for scalability.
