Trip the Light Fantastic is the third studio album by British singer and songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor. The album was released on May 21, 2007 by Fascination Records after the release of the lead single, "Catch You" and the second single, "Me and My Imagination". The album is available for streaming over the internet on May 18, 2007, three days before the official release date. It debuted on UK Albums Charts at number 7 but fell from the top 40 after just three weeks.
"Today's Sun's on Us" is the third single released from the album on August 13, 2007, causing the album to re-enter UK Album Chart at number 39. In an interview with Digital Spy , Ellis -Bextor asserts that the fourth single from the album was "If I Can not Dance", and on May 5, 2008, the single was released exclusively through the iTunes Store. The song also appeared on the soundtrack for St Trinian's .
It received most of the positive reviews from music critics, with many praising the album for being a pleasant "shiny" dance record. The album became Ellis-Bextor's second studio album which will be available digitally in the United States.

In an interview for Digital Spy , Ellis-Bextor claimed he recorded four duets for the album, however, decided not to include any of them on the basis of his record label request. Nevertheless, Dan Gillespie Sells provides backing vocals for two songs on the album, and Fred Schneider provides another backing vocal. Originally, Ellis-Bextor claimed he would not appear on the cover of the album, however, he later claimed that he had changed his mind. He commented, "It's sparkling, but hopefully it's more profound than just my good photos on the cover!" Ellis-Bextor works on an album with someone he considers a "French man named Dimitri", who is rumored to be Dimitri from Paris, but it turns out Dimitri Tikovoi. He also worked on this album with his former bandmate, Kerin Smith, from theaudience. The opening line in "If I Can not Dance" is, according to Ellis-Bextor in an interview for The Times website, a famous quote by feminist anarchist Emma Goldman. He also revealed that he wrote about eighty songs for the album, and later admitted, "That's how many demos there are, overall, maybe knocking out the three numbers I'm going to say." He revealed that he had plans to release a song called "Hype", which took the Kraftwerk "Model" model, but the record label denied his permission. Once released in Australia, the album went into the top ten on the iTunes Australia pop album chart and the top 40 on the main album chart, but failed to map on the ARIA Charts.

Singles
"Catch You" was released as the lead single on the album in February 2007. It is a pop rock, electronic song and talks about Ellis-Bextor chasing the guy he wants. It received mostly positive reviews from music critics, who praised the infusion of rock guitars and electronic beats, while calling it a shrill and excellent song. A music video directed by Sophie Muller and it shows Ellis-Bextor chasing someone in Venice. The song is played moderately on the charts, reaching number 8 on the UK Singles Chart, culminating in the top twenty on Italian Singles and Russian Charts and in the top 50 listings on other countries' charts.
"If You Go" was released as a single promo on iTunes in March 2007.
"Me and My Imagination" is a follow-up, hitting the market in May 2007. It's a dance-pop song, disco and lyrics suggesting a more active applicant to play harder to get it. It only reached number twenty-three on the UK Singles Chart. It's received praise from music critics, who called it a brilliant and irresistible piece of pop. The song was the cause of the controversy because of unexpected delays in its release on iTunes.
"Today's Sun's on Us" is the third single, released in August. The album received positive reviews from most of the music critics. K. Ross Hoffman of AllMusic gave the album 4 out of 5 stars, writing "A comeback of one of the most sophisticated and distinctive sounds in British pop dance, Trip's Easy Orange easily Sophie Ellis - most albums dynamic from Bexor to date, more consistent than its delightful predecessor, but also - more importantly - much bolder, varied and vital, many of its strong points are the most exciting of his career. "Hoffman also named it" a very pleasant record that stands as a brilliant example of the state of the art. " Nick Levine of Digital Spy also rated the album 4 out of 5 stars, wrote " Trip the Light Fantastic easily fulfill the promise of its fizzy single." Stuart McCaighy from This Is Fake DIY gave the album 8 out of 10 stars, writes that Ellis-Bextor "has a class, the least air of pop stars." Pete Cashmore from NME gave this album a rating of 6 out of 10 stars, writes "Ellis-Bextor enriches, mechanical dance muzak, which may not be what you want, so it helps that by swooping 'New York City Lights' he's also brought good pop songs, as fancy as walking to a Walkabout pub and ordering Cosmopolitan, and no less satisfactory. Tour
Ellis-Bextor was originally planned to start a 14-date concert tour that begins on August 14 and ends on October 5, 2007. The tour is scheduled to be a UK national tour, including festivals such as T4 on the Beach (July 22), twice at the V Festival (August 18 and 19 and at Summer Sundae (August 11), but the entire tour was postponed due to Ellis-Bextor's involvement with Take That 34 tour dates. The Trip Trip Fantastic Tour was rescheduled in early 2008 "better and bigger than ever," according to Ellis-Bextor, but it was postponed once again and said to be rescheduled for Autumn, but eventually canceled.
Ellis-Bextor is also said to have plans to tour Ireland, continental Europe and Australia to support the album and promote singles around the world. However, the world tour component was never officially confirmed.
