Description
The Copic marker is available in 358 permanent, non-toxic, alcohol-based and rechargeable colors using standard color refill inks. Refillable inks can be mixed to create custom colors, and empty markers are sold for this purpose. The markers are airtight to prevent them from drying out and are guaranteed a 3-year shelf life. Sketch markers, which are the most popular versions, have a chisel-style tip at one end and a brush end at the other, though additional styles of replaced edges and tips are available.
The company also sells an airbrush system that utilizes air compressors or air cans to blow ink from the tip of the marker onto the paper.

History
In 1987, the early classic line of Copic Markers was introduced in Japan by thinking of the manga industry. A total of 71 colors were launched and developed to meet designer demand for photocopy-safe markers. The markers will not dissolve the newly printed copy toner, and in turn the marker is named Copic, which comes from the word "copy". In 1989, an additional 71 colors were added to the line, adding a more neutral and gray tone set to the bookmark library. This additional tone was created to accommodate architectural design and painting figures. In 1991, 72 new colors were added to meet the need to design the environment and fashion.
In 1993, Copic Sketch was introduced with a variety of 144 colors. This marker features Super Brush Nib, a brush that revolutionizes art marker pens with durability and long life. The Copic sketch has since become the most searched marker of the company.
In 1998, Copic Ciao marker was introduced. This line was released with 72 colors and is a cheap package designed for beginners. Since 1999 many new colors have been added to the Copic Sketch line to meet the marker success and expansion of the manga market. Many colors are introduced to the line of Coping Skets including meat tones, pastels, fluorescent and more.

It is also possible to mix ink colors to create custom colors.
Encoding System
At both ends of the marker, the hat has a code containing the letters and or 2-4 numbers that follow it. This number/letter system describes the type of marker used.
Color
The first part of the code is the letter (s), which represents the color group the marker is part of. There are up to 2 letters showing what color matches the color marker. These colors are abbreviated as follows:
Primary Color
- R - red family
- B - blue family
- Y - yellow family
Secondary Colors
- G - green family
- V - purple/purple family
- YR - orange family (letters for Yellow Yellow)
Tertiary Color
- BG - blue-green family
- YG - yellow-green family
- BV - blue-violet/blue-violet family
- RV - pink/red-violet family
Other Colors
- E-earth tones/browns
- N - neutral gray
- C - cold gray
- W - warm gray
- T - toner gray
- F - neon/neon color
- There is a full black marker but only represented by numbers, such as 100 for black and 110 for special black.
If you're still confused about the color of the inner marker, for further insurance, the marker stamp is also color-coded. It should also be noted that only the original, sketch, and wide versions have the code on the lid and bottom of the marker; ciao marker is just a colored hat with code just on the base.
Saturation
Following the letter is the first number. Pigmentation and saturation are directly related to the first number assigned to the Copic marker. This first number can range from 0-9 and fluctuates depending on the vibrancy of the color given to the markers. The lower the number, about 0-2, the brighter and stronger the color in pigmentation. Those with higher numbers ranging from 3-9 for the first digit tend to be more boring and less saturated than the lower numbers.
Shade
After the first number, there is one last digit. The last number in the Copic code indicates what color the color is. Shade deals with the light or darkness of the marker color. Like saturation, the numbers range from 0-9. Lighter colors tend to be relative to lower numbers such as 0-4 and darker colors associated with higher numbers such as 5-9. If you can describe the value scale from white to black, it's a bit like numbering system, 0 is "white" 9 is "black" and all the numbers in between are gray value up/down.
More
There are also some cases where the copic code will have more than 2 numbers. These colors will look like B000, or B0000. These cases only appear in colors that have saturation and shade numbers marked as zero. Color only means that they are even lighter than "lightest colors". For example, take B00, there is even a lighter shade of color even though the saturation and shadow numbers are as low as possible.
The last code to be mentioned is a colorless blender. This marker is only encoded with a single 0 because it only contains the base marker minus the color pigment and thus is colorless.
Pens
Copic sells 4 different types of pens. Multiliners is a disposable artist pen that comes in 8 colors and 10 tip sizes. Multiliner SP is a more premium version of Multiliners that has aluminum body and replaceable nibs and inks. Multiliner SP comes in 13 colors and 10 tip sizes. The Drawing Fountain has 2 different sizes and 2 different colors. Pena Atyou Spica has a glitter feature that is present in 24 colors.
Airbrush
The airbrush system uses disposable compressed air cans, or air from the compressor, to spray ink from the Original Copic and Sketch markers to the surface.
