" The Zephyr Song " is a song by Red Hot Chili Peppers and the second single released from the band's eighth studio album, By the Way , was released on August 17, 2002 The song, as a single, was released in two parts. Both editions held two previously unheard B-sides, making them, collectively, holding four non-LP songs.
The single peaked at number 6 on the Modern Rock chart, breaking the band's rows from three straight number one hits.
The working title for the song during the recording session is "Coltraine".

Composition
The song is about the healing power of nature and human relationships. In April 2017, it was revealed that John Frusciante inadvertently interpolated the song "Pure Imagination" from the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The opening of these three guitar notes is similar to the first three songs sung. note of "Pure Imagination."

The music video on December 1, 2002, directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. The couple has collaborated with the band on other CDs. It is generally suggestive and reminiscent of kaleidoscopes, by utilizing the same circular and interwoven characters to illustrate the psychedelic feelings the band is aiming at.
Live show
"The Zephyr Song" was performed over 120 times from 2002-2004. However, it remained absent from band setlist for twelve years until finally back in 2016.
