Histori

Carnival Corporation was founded as Carnival Cruise Line in 1972. The company grew steadily during the 1970s and 1980s, making an initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange in 1987. The resulting capital was used to finance the acquisition, and between 1989 and 1999, the company acquired Holland America Line, Windstar Cruises, Westours, Seabourn Cruise Line, Costa Cruises and Cunard Line. The name Carnival Corporation was adopted in 1993, to distinguish the parent company of its flagship flagship subsidiary.

P & amp; O Princess Cruises plc was formed in 2000, following the demerger division of cruises from group P & amp; O. Originated as Peninsular and Oriental Steam Installer in England in 1837, P & amp; O operates the world's first commercial passenger vessel, the forerunner of a modern yacht. Group Restructuring P & amp; O in the 20th century caused its shipping operations to be renamed P & amp; O Cruises and P & amp; O Cruises Australia, with the company acquiring Princess Cruises in 1974. After the demerger in 2000, the company also acquired AIDA Cruises, as well as built the A'Rosa Cruises and Ocean Village brands.

In 2003, Carnival Corporation acquired P & amp; O Princess Cruises plc. It was agreed that P & amp; O Princess Cruises plc will remain a separate company, listed on the London Stock Exchange and retain its shareholder body and British management team. The company changed its name to Carnival plc, with the operations of the two companies merged into one entity. Carnival Corporation and Carnival plc, together owns all the companies operating in the Carnival group. Prior to the acquisition of Carnival Corporation, P & amp; O Princess Cruises plc has agreed to merge with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. The deal unravels when the Carnival Corporation initiates a hostile takeover with an improved requirement for UK shareholders.

The Carnival sold Windstar Cruises to the Ambassadors Group in February 2007 and Swan Hellenic to Lord Sterling in March 2007.

In March 2018, Carnival Corporation announced its intention to invest in the construction of a new terminal at the port of Sasebo, Japan. Expected to open in 2020.

    Brands and ships

    AIDA Cruises

AIDA Cruises comes from the German state-owned Deutsche Seereederei, which was founded in Rostock, Germany in 1952. The company entered the passenger market in the 1960s, but after the German unification in 1990, the company was privatized and its passenger ships were acquired. by Deutsche Seetouristik. In 1996, the company launched its first new cruise ship AIDA , but after failing to make a profit, the ship was sold to the Norwegian Cruise Line, continuing operations under the charter agreement. In 1999, Deutsche Seetouristik was acquired by British shipping company P & amp; O, with the name AIDA bought back from NCL. P & amp; O then formed AIDA Cruises as a subsidiary brand, with two new ships being ordered to form a fleet. AIDA was renamed to AIDAcara , with AIDAvita and AIDAaura launched in 2002 and 2003 each. From 2000 to 2003, AIDA Cruises is a subsidiary of P & amp; O Princess Cruises plc and since the establishment of Carnival Corporation & amp; plc in 2003, has been under the control of Costa Cruises Group executives, with corporate headquarters in Genoa, Italy and operational headquarters in Rostock, Germany.

    Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Cruise Line was founded in 1972 as a subsidiary of American Travel Service International (AITS), by Ted Arison and Meshulam Riklis. Due to increased debt, Riklis sold its stake in the company to Arison for $ 1 in 1974. However, through the acquisition of existing vessels, the company continued to grow and, in 1980, the Carnival ordered its first new commission, Tropicale , which finished in 1981/2. Three further vessels were deployed during the 1980s, the Vacation (1985), Jubilee (1986) and Celebration (1987). In 1987, Carnival completed its initial public offering of 20 percent of ordinary shares on the New York Stock Exchange, raising approximately $ 400 million in capital. The raised capital was used to finance the acquisition, so in 1993 the business was restructured as a holding company, under the name Carnival Corporation, with Carnival Cruise Line becoming its main subsidiary. Carnival continues to be the largest single brand in the Carnival group today, operating twenty-six ships.

    Costa Cruises

Costa Cruises came from a cargo delivery company founded by Giacomo Costa fu Andrea in Genoa, Italy in 1854. Better known as the Costa Line or C Line in the 1920s, its first passenger airline was Maria C , a ship the former US Navy was partially converted for passenger use and served various routes to North and South America from 1947 to 1953. The company's first dedicated passenger vessel was Anna C , a cargo ship purchased for war time usage by Royal Navy and reassembled as accommodation vessel before returning to merchant usage. Costa purchased the vessel in 1947 and operated between Italy and South America from 1948, then turned into a full-time cruise ship and served with the company until 1971. From the late 1960s to the 1980s, Costa quickly expanded its passenger operations into what we are doing now. known as a modern yacht. Furthermore, in 1987, the company consolidated its cruise ship operations into a new company, Costa Cruises, which, at its peak, was the largest cruise ship operator in the world. The takeover of Costa Cruises by Carnival Corporation began in 1997, as a 50/50 deal between Carnival and British tour operator Airtours. Carnival then began buying Airtours shares in the company, becoming a sole shareholder in September 2000. Costa Cruises is now one of the biggest brands in the Carnival Group, with 15 vessels.

    Cunard Line

The second oldest brand in the Carnival group after P & amp; O Cruises, Cunard Line dates from 1840 and celebrates its 175th anniversary in 2015. It was founded by Samuel Cunard, who was awarded the first trans-Atlantic letter contract in 1837 and founded the British and Royal American Steam-Packet Company in America in 1840 After initially dominating the trans-Atlantic route, the need for new capital led to the company being reorganized as the Cunard Fire Firm in 1879. The early 1900s saw increasing competition for speed, especially from Germany, who led the British government to subsidize the development of Mauretania and Lusitania , both of which won Blue Riband. Competition continued to increase however and in the early 1930s, Cunard was experiencing financial difficulties. To secure further government subsidies, he agreed to join his main rival White Star Line, to form the Cunard-White Star Line in 1934. Cunard then purchased the remaining White Star shares in 1947, returning to the name of Cunard Line in 1949. Cunard continued. operated independently until 1971, when it was acquired by the Trafalgar House conglomerate, which in turn was taken over by Norwegian company KvÃÆ'Â|rner in 1996. In 1998, Carnival Corporation purchased a controlling stake in Cunard, completing the acquisition in 1999 to become a shareholder single. Since then, Cunard has become one of the most famous carnival brands, with the continuing popularity of the famous Queen Elizabeth 2 and the development of the world's largest transatlantic ocean vessel, Queen Mary 2, which continues to be the flagship of the ship's fleet. Following the merger of Carnival Corporation and Carnival plc in 2003, Cunard brand executive control was transferred to Carnival UK, with corporate headquarters and operations in Southampton, England.

    Holland America Line

Holland America Line comes from Plate, Reuchlin & amp; The company, founded in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, in 1871. Originally struggling for survival, the company went public in 1873, renamed Nederlandsch Amerikaansche Stoomvaart Maatschappij (NASM). The company grew rapidly in the early years, acquiring several new vessels, including SS Rotterdam , which operated the company's first passenger voyage in 1895. The company was also immediately known by its short name in English, Holland America. Line, which was officially adopted in 1869. In the early 1900s, the company had separated its cargo and passenger operations, with its passenger carrier identifiable by the name ending with a dam, a tradition that continued with the Holland America ship excursion today. The development of container shipments in the 1960s, forcing companies to make decisions between investing in new cargo ships, or cruise ships. The company eventually sold its cargo operations, becoming a yacht company in 1973. Holland America continued to expand well into the 1980s, consolidating its business with the acquisition of Westours, Windstar Cruises and Home Lines. But in 1989, itself was the subject of the acquisition, when it was purchased entirely by Carnival Corporation. Since the formation of Carnival Corporation and plc in 2003, Holland America Line has become one of the premier operating companies of Carnival Group, with corporate headquarters and operations in Seattle.
