Grace Avery VanderWaal (born January 15, 2004) is an American singer-songwriter. She received extensive notice at an early age and was known for her distinctive vocals, often accompanying herself on ukulele.
VanderWaal began his musical career by posting videos of the original song and its cover on YouTube and performing on open mic nights near Suffern's hometown of New York. In September 2016, at the age of 12, he won the eleventh season of NBC's America's Got Talent TV show (AGT), singing the original song. In December 2016, he released his first EP, Perfect Not Perfect , on the Columbia Records label. Family and education
VanderWaal was born near Kansas City, Kansas, to Tina and David VanderWaal, who lived in Lenexa at the time. David is of Dutch origin and works as vice president of marketing at LG Electronics. VanderWaal moved to Suffern, New York, where he lived with his parents and older sister; he also has an older brother. VanderWaal started singing and composing songs at the age of three. As a teenager, he finds inspiring songwriting by watching movies and trying to imagine what a character feels, and "what if I were them, and writing songs." 2016: American Talent Got
On June 7, 2016, VanderWaal auditioned for the eleventh season of NBC's talent show AGT , singing the original song about identity, "I Do not Know My Name". He was chosen by one of the show's judges, Howie Mandel, as his "golden bell" acting to pass the next round and perform in the quarter-finals of life.
